Costume from Shopski region

This traditional costume from Western Bulgaria is worn by locals both daily and on special occasions.

After World War I, the older, heavier version called sukman was replaced by a lighter, more comfortable garment called the litak.

The litak is made from light fabric, making it easy to wear and move in. It is beautifully decorated with many small golden sequins, silver cords and colorful ribbons.

This costume includes three main parts: a short shirt, the litak (a sleeveless outer garment) and a belt.

Today, the costume from the Shopski region is a proud symbol of Bulgarian culture and traditions.
