Shirts with embroidery

Shirts are the core element of the traditional folk costume and in folk belief are equivalent to the human body.
There is even an old Bulgarian saying: “You do not appear before God without a shirt.”
This is why the shirt is considered a sacred family and ancestral relic — a garment that carries, preserves and passes on the virtues of the family. Through their shirts, Bulgarians expressed their worldview, aiming to create a symbolic miniature model of the Cosmos.
