Traditional clothing of Rhodopean region

The Rhodopean folk costume carries deep symbolism and magic. It is not just an outfit, but a living story, telling about the traditions and spiritual values of the Rhodopean people. Made of natural fabrics such as wool, linen and hemp, the men's Rhodopean costumes combine simple and natural colours such as White: symbol of purity, innocence and spirituality, Black: symbol of sorrow but also of the earth and fertility, Red: symbol of vitality, health, strength and love, Blue: symbol of the sky, water and eternity, Green: symbol of nature, spring and renewal. The stitches that decorate the costumes also symbolise fertility, health and good luck. 

The male Rhodopean costume consists of a shirt made of linen or cotton with embroidery on the collar, a short waistcoat decorated with wool details, poturi - wool trousers, wide at the hips and narrow at the legs, yamurluk - a long, woolen robe decorated with wool details.
