IMPORTANT: NEVER STORE THE COSTUME WHILE DAMP

A traditional folk costume or any of its individual parts must never be placed in a wardrobe, cupboard, box, garment bag, or any other enclosed space while even slightly damp.

Before storage, the item must be completely dry.

Moisture may cause:

• unpleasant odours;
• mould;
• damage to the fabric;
• colour changes;
• damage to embroidery;
• deformation of individual elements;
• permanent damage to the garment.

Do not store the costume immediately after a performance, dancing, a festival, or prolonged wear.

Allow it to air thoroughly and make sure it is completely dry before storing it.

WOOLLEN ITEMS

Woollen costumes and woollen components require particular care.

They should be aired regularly, especially when stored for long periods.

Do not leave a woollen item closed in a wardrobe for months without checking it.

Periodically take the costume out and allow it to air in a dry, well-ventilated place.

When exposing it to sunlight, be careful and avoid prolonged direct sunlight, as this may affect the colours.

Woollen garments should also be checked regularly for signs of moth damage.

WASHING AND CLEANING

WASHING MACHINE — STRICTLY PROHIBITED

Do not wash a traditional folk costume in a washing machine.

Even a delicate cycle may cause:

• shrinkage;
• deformation;
• damage or displacement of embroidery;
• damage to decorative braid;
• detached sequins or decorative elements;
• loss of shape;
• permanent damage to the garment.

TUMBLE DRYER — STRICTLY PROHIBITED

Never place a traditional folk costume or any of its parts in a tumble dryer.

High temperatures and mechanical movement may irreversibly damage the fabric and decorative details.

DO NOT USE:

• washing machines;
• tumble dryers;
• spin cycles;
• bleach;
• aggressive detergents;
• strong stain removers;
• fabric softeners without first confirming that they are suitable;
• hot water;
• vigorous rubbing;
• twisting or wringing.

RECOMMENDED CLEANING

The safest option is professional cleaning suitable for the specific fabrics and decorative elements of the costume.

Hand washing should only be carried out with extreme care and only when the particular fabric and item allow it.

Do not soak the costume for long periods.

Do not rub embroidery, braid, or decorative elements.

Do not twist or wring the fabric.

Do not use hot water.

If you are unsure how a particular item should be cleaned, do not attempt to wash it without professional advice.

DRYING

A traditional folk costume must be allowed to dry naturally and completely.

Where the construction of the garment allows, use a suitable hanger that supports and preserves its shape.

Do not allow heavy, wet garments to hang in a way that may stretch or deform them.

Do not use a tumble dryer.

Do not dry the costume directly on a radiator, heater, stove, or any other source of intense heat.

Do not use clothes pegs on visible, embroidered, or decorative areas.

Before storing the item, make sure it is fully dry throughout, including around linings, belts, embroidered areas, and thicker decorative sections.

IRONING

Ironing a traditional folk costume requires particular care.

Never place a hot iron directly on:

• sequins;
• braid;
• embroidery;
• metal elements;
• appliqués;
• decorative trims;
• beads;
• delicate synthetic details.

Always use a temperature suitable for the specific fabric.

Whenever possible, iron the garment from the reverse side.

For delicate areas, place a clean cotton cloth between the iron and the garment.

Excessive heat may cause irreversible damage.

STORAGE

Store the costume:

• only when completely dry;
• in a clean and dry place;
• away from moisture;
• away from heat sources;
• away from prolonged direct sunlight;
• protected from dust and moths;
• without being tightly compressed by other garments.

Check its condition periodically.

For long-term storage, the costume should be taken out and aired regularly.
