The Rhodopean folk costume carries deep symbolism and magic. It is not just an outfit, but a living history, telling about the traditions and spiritual values of the Rhodopean women. Made of natural fabrics such as wool, linen and hemp, the women's Rhodopean costumes combine simple and natural colours such as White: symbol of purity, innocence and spirituality, Black: symbol of sorrow, but also of the earth and fertility, Red: symbol of vitality, health, strength and love, Blue: symbol of the sky, water and eternity, Green: symbol of nature, spring and renewal. The stitches that decorate the costumes also symbolise fertility, health and good luck. The costume is made up of a white shirt with embroidery, a long dressing gown and a colourful apron that adds freshness and vitality.
